Where to buy engine rebuild parts?
Where to buy engine rebuild parts?
So just a simple question, I'm getting ready to rebuild 95 2.3 liter and there are so many choices of parts stores, even on this cite. I'm looking for rod, main bearings, and rings, gasket kit. I figure this site would be the best to ask, thank you

Check out ARD tuning. They have some internal parts like bearings, rods, and pistons. Good options if you're going forged. For gasket check out FCP Euro or eEuroparts.

Thank you for your input, I have used ARD for many things but they don't have rings and I figured I better use oe considering how long these motors last stock. Not sure about aftermarket bearings but I haven't found bearings and rings in same spot yet. Considering how good these engines are my junkyard engine I bought with170k just needs standard everthing not oversized, the one in my 95 850 has over 300k and runs great but compression down to 130 psi across . thank you again

I normally wouldn't recommend them, but check out Rock Auto. They usually have a good selection of rebuild parts, and their prices are pretty good.
If they're still available though, it couldn't hurt to go with genuine Volvo parts.

The motor I have in my 850 t now is just wore out but good core to do something with, so I bought junkyard engine with quote only 150 k on motor and 167 compression cold test, thinking of perfect stage 0 and I have time still with mine running still to go ahead and rebuild . I already tore down, rod bearing look new, main bearings show wear, cylinders show light dark spots, maybe out of round. So Volvo bearings or after market?? same with rings ,it would be nice to deal with one person and supply house to get parts, communication wise, wrong parts ect. Thank you for your input though
thanks jimbee, ya that's a nice tutorial, still haven't found all parts in one spot but got it figured out, most adds on this site will take care of everything. I should get my block back this week, still praying for std rings and not have to bore.

Like I mentioned in the tutorial, it's important to deep clean the cylinder walls and then scuff them up using the ball hone. If either or both of these steps is skipped, the new rings won't "run in" properly and you might not get renewed compression and oil could slip by.
The other concern I mentioned is the lack of a locking notch on the stock Volvo bearing sleeves. If you're planning to run it hard better protection for the lower end would be an upgrade bearing like racers use. I think I named the one that most Volvo hot rodders were favoring. If they cost an extra fifty bucks, that's cheap protection, and the ones I named do have that locking notch. Without that, a spun bearing is more likely at high rpms.
Also about the main bearings, Volvo assemblers mic each journal and hand fit the perfect bearing size to each one. I think they're color coded. Again, racers either replace only the perfectly matched sizes (which costs big bucks) or use a "best close fit". I didn't take my block down that far and it seems okay. Of course If you've had your crank ground, then you should be able to get the right over size inserts for the ground journals.
Good luck!
