Immobilizer see manual

Post by hu5ker555 »

2008 S60 2.5T 170k miles

Out of the blue yesterday, I started up the car to be greeted by the "Immobilizer see manual" warning and a very rough idle.
This has never happened before, and the car has been running like a champ. I turned it off, waited about 20 mins, and started it back up. No problems for the rest of the day.

Is this a fluke? Or should I be worried? Anything suggestions?

Can you read the codes?
My V70 did strange things like lock itself until I changed the battery in the key fob.

No codes. The key battery seems OK, as it activates the locks just fine.

I discovered when starting the vehicle if I am turning the key with my fingers too close/wrapped around the end closest to the steering column it can block the transponder signal. I'm not sure that's what may have happened to you. Mine acted all or nothing when I discovered this but you never know...if it managed to read the transponder at the last instant but one of the modules such as the CEM or ECU had locked itself down pending the next key cycle and the other didn't.

I might also consider this a potential case of either a CEM or AEM getting too hot with a car parked in full sun all closed up if this was the case. The embedded CPU/SOCs shut down until they cooled off a little or you have a solder joint going bad. I've been noticing some unusual blazing interior temperatures when I get in the car last couple weeks even when outside temps haven't been that particularly hot and/or partly cloudy as if more infrared radiation from the sun is getting through the atmosphere than usual. I'm in Indiana, not even a desert, and I'm sensing some differences this year I don't like. The overall weather pattern here is definitely a little 'off' for June/July. Last winter was definitely not right. I've experienced el nino/la nino years before. This year is different -something new- I haven't seen before. At least in my 48 years.

Thanks for the response. Sounds like an oddball occurrence. If it doesn't happen again soon, I guess I won't worry about it. The car has been starting and running like a champ since last Friday.
