1991 940 Turbo Performance problems

Post by jackrusselterrier »

I've been putting up with sluggish performance from my volvo for longer than I want to admit. When I first purchased my wagon, (used) it ran very smooth and the turbo gave it a significant boost that made it fun to drive. The first indication of a problem occured when the car barely made it home one day - it acted like it wasn't getting enough fuel; sputtering and I mean it literally just made it home. I replaced the Mass Air Flow Sensor and it ran better, but not great. The most notable symptom that has remained is seems to bog right down when accelerated to 3500 rpm. On the one hand, the problem seems to be a failing fuel pump or auxillary fuel pump. On the other hand, I would have thought that fuel pump failure would have brought the car to a stop long before now! Any ideas, suggestions and tips would be greatly appreciated!

I had a similar problem...turned out to be a worn out hose..the big intake hose had rubbed against the turbo and gotten soft .The car ran fine at slow speed or part throttle but when I floored the pedal the soft hose would colapse and the car would not accelerate .
