This probably sounds like a dumb question, but are both camshafts supposed to have a rear seal?
The reason I ask is that I’m in the process of replacing front and rear cam seals, and when I pulled the plug from the rear intake cam, there didn’t appear to be any seal at all. Attached are photos of both rear seal areas.
The rear of the intake cam was pretty cruddy looking under the plug, while the exhaust cam was clean.

Just the plug on a bastard era intake cam without VVT.
