fuel smell engine bay

Post by ashgoldS60 »

2001 S60 2.4 Normally Aspirated. I have started to smell a slight fuel odor after shutdown. I could not see any wetness but wiping the outside of the fuel damper I could smell fuel. It appears the damper has an o-ring but no separate part listing. This fuel rail has no pressure sensor just a bleeder valve at one end.

So I had planned to replace all the injector o-rings when I look at the damper. Am I forced to replace the entire damper or has someone discovered a replacement o-ring for the damper.

Secondly, is the damper a two piece part that is factory crimped? I am wondering if the crimp is where the leak is and not the o-ring which means I need the entire damper anyway.

I just found a similar problem on my 2001 S60. I found the o-rings around the injectors were leaking so I replaced them. The injectors were in bad condition, 213k on them, so I replaced them about a week later. There was still a fuel smell after I replaced the injectors. Turns out the damper was leaking at the crimp seal. I found one here:

Been a little over a week and there is no more fuel smell.
