I have a ‘96 850 with MCC heat. I am having a problem with the blower motor. When I turn the blower on in any position, 1-4, nothing happens.
From what I understand, the blower motor resistor works the motor in positions 1-3. So if the resistor was bad, the blower should still work on position 4.
The blower relay works the motor in position 4. So if the relay was bad, the motor should work in positions 1-3, but not 4. Is that correct?? I do hear the rely click when I put the heat in position 4.
I checked both fuses and they are both good.
I pulled the blower motor to check if it was seized. It was not seized and did spin freely. I replaced the blower motor about a year ago and it did work until about a week ago. I did buy a cheap aftermarket motor off eBay, so maybe I got what I paid for?? Also, there was an electrical burning type of smell in the car around the time the blower stopped working.
Any advice on what to do next would be appreciated. Is there anything else I should be checking besides the motor, the resistor, the relay and the fuses?
Also, would it be safe to test the blower motor by running jumpers from the battery directly to the motor?

Yes, testing the blower motor with 12V is the thing to try next!
