After I replaced the leaking rear view mirror new host of fun symptoms

Post by hiscopilot »

2002 Volvo V70

I had read about the auto dim mirror being somehow tied into the security system, so it connected the dots between the security system no longer working and the leaky mirror. I replaced the mirror according to the instructions compiled from various sites (technically minimal skill, but the electronic part...).

Now I have lost my dome lights and remote locks. I checked fuses. I pulled the panel back down and double checked all connections and anything else that may have been disturbed during installation. Oh and no sunroof operation.

Here's the curious part. If I dim my panel lights and raise them again, sometimes a couple times, the rear dome light comes on. Then the panels (front and back seats) work. Then back to non functional.

What the heck did I do?

Try replacing the part back to the leaky mirror.
If the fault goes away, I'd say there's something wrong with the new mirror.

Or, It could be a software issue.
Did the instructions mention anything about VIDA update after install ?

Just a couple hints, if I can remember correctly when I did the swap successfully:

1) Did you disconnect the battery prior to the swap?
2) Did you reconnect the battery properly (ie. with key in II position)?
3) Did you manually use the key (not keyfob) to open and lock the drivers side door, multiple times?

The last one should help with the dome lights and door locks.

Good luck.

Well, after trying everything I could find to do save for spending the big bucks at the dealer, I believe I have found the solution. this thread viewtopic.php?t=16275 seems to be my next direction. I have not had time to try it yet, but I will soon and let you know. I just wanted to post it here in case someone else desperately searches as I did and did not find much! Thank you so much!

I think you will stil need to visit a dealer and have them download and reload the UEM software. This is free service except for the firmware download, if you are having a service or any other work done. One thing you can specify is what level of auto-dipping to choose get the service reception to go over the options with you. You cannot do this yourself even with Vida DiCE because a firmware download is required.
