2004 s40 1.9t

Post by raz19111 »

I'm new to the forum, and new to Volvos. I like my s40 1.9 turbo, but i'm having a problem with the heat/defrost fan control. the fan goes on and off when it feels like. I replaced the transistor (mj802) but am still having the same problem. any help would be appreciated

It's a common problem with no apparent easy or inexpensive solution.

Ive also tried changing the resistor, cleaning the sensor.

Some people have suggested replacing the "pots" on the ECC (Electronic Climate Control) but I haven't come across many convincing posts that make it a "sure thing".

There is a place that used to sell reconditioned ECC units for a few hundred bucks.
I think it was XMODEX.

Edit: It looks like they still repair them. You may want to contact them to see if it's the cure for your symptoms.

It's pretty annoying. Mine will usually calm down after about 20-30 minutes.
Fortunately I don't need to use the blower very often.

I had the same problem and replaced the transistor and even the climate control unit. Ultimately, it was the blower motor, which was super easy to replace. I got a cheaper motor than the original heavy Bosch. It's a little louder, but it beats not having heat and defrosting in the winter.
