I noticed when I ordered a new MAF sensor, that the unit installed did not match the part number of the factory part number (one digit different). I checked many sources and concluded that the unit in my car is actually the wrong one. I probably should have replaced it with the same part number, but I decided I’d correct what he previous owner had apparently erred. The new unit (that is exact factory replacement) is larger diameter housing than the one in my vehicle. Without replacing the entire intake tract and filter housing, I won’t be using the new housing. Next obvious solution seemed to be swapping the new sensor to the old housing. The part numbers match and all looks great, except the old one has a resistor attached (hopefully shows in attached phot) and the new one does not.
Does anyone know what the purpose of the resistor is in this application and if I need to install it on the new sensor? Thanks
2004 S80 MAF
What prompted this move ? Who makes the old sensor and the new one ? Try a cleaning of the old sensor first and change the air filter while you are doing this swap. I cannot tell you what that little resistor does. If you are doing this because of an error code that says that MAF voltage is not right, that may be caused by other things such as the O2 sensor or a dirty throttle module
