1978 240 with EGR/EXH light on

Post by bclinch »

I have a 1978 244DL with a EGR/EXH light on. I seem to recall that this light is generated by milage rather that a real problem (so that you will take it to a mechanic and have the system checked). I seem to recall that there is a reset switch but I forget where it is. Could someone help me out?

A stroll down memory lane.

The EGR light does come on at 15,000 mile intervals to remind you to clean it. It should, however, be renewed every 30,000 miles.

The reset button is in the odometer. Remove the cover of the odometer (1 screw) and press the reset button which is situated next to the speedometer drive cable.

Thanks for the quick reply, Bill. I found the car 4 years ago in an impound lot. It had an original 8,000 miles on it. I now have 44,000 on it. The light has come on a couple of times and it wasn't till this last time my mechanic let it slip that it was just a reset switch. Thanks again.
