Oil Leak 2001 S80 T6

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Oil Leak 2001 S80 T6

Post by Wilf »

Hi there,
I have a 2001 but first reg.2004 volvo S80 T6 and are having oil leak problems.I have put a plastic glove over the oil filler (but when cold)and revved the motor.the glove expands with acceleration and deflates with de-acceleration.I have had a local mechanic
look at my car and he keeps telling me that the system should be pressurised but that does conflict with what I read.My car is dripping oil, about a 150mm dia mess on the garage floor a day.Last week I took my car to the same mechanic along with a PCV kit and asked him to install.I dont think he installed the whole kit just the flash back pipe. The car still leaks so I went back to him and he now tells me the the block is leaking oil either from the sump joint or the next section up from the bottom.I went home rather dejected and carried out the glove test as above. In my humble opinion I think that my PCV has a blockage and that all the pipes and vent box need to be replaced or cleared. What do you think???
Insidently I have owned many cars during my life time in excess of 70.I have had several Jags three BMWs and four Mercs and this Volvo is the nicest of all.

I have a 2004 S80 T6 and the glove has never inflated at idle or at 2000 rpm. At 2000 rpm it sucks down harder. That was with the factory system in place. Last month I had Volvo replace my system due to a sudden minor oil consumption issue that I was assured was not a leak. So I insisted the system be replaced since in the maintenance schedule the banjo bolt is to be serviced on the 6cyl models and btw Volvo makes a replacement tube that connects with the banjo bolt. My dealer refused to do the service at 120k, but due to the oil mystery suddenly occurring agreed to replace the system to rule it out.

I found out last week when I took it in that in my case it is the rear main seal which requires the transmission to be removed to fix. The rear cam seals in 2016 and now the rear main in 2018. So in 14 years it has leaked oil in two places. Rear cam and rear main, you might closely look at both. June
