2002 XC70 Key Won’t Unlock Door

Help! I have a 2002 XC70 and I want to start using my key to unlock the door instead of the fob in case I’m stuck in a situation where the battery runs out in the fob. I went to try to unlock my car with the key and it goes inside, turns but nothing happens. I have been turning it left and right, flipped the key around and still nothing. I need serious help because my battery is actually going out!
