2000 v70xc shaking
2000 v70xc shaking
I have a 2000 v70xc that is shaking pretty bad, when i get on it going around a corner it sometimes fees like my wheel is loose but it for sure isnt, but it is there all the time just worse going around a corner. I had my sway bad end link nut come off and it was smacking around something but I put a new nut on it and that is about when I started noticing the shake and its gradually gotten worse. But if im going from a stop and get on it, my steering wheel gets a pretty good shake to it. Sometimes its a lot worse than others. Sorry if the wording is confusing, its hard to describe what is going on. Also, I dont have my rear driveline in so it isnt that. Thanks

Does the vibration feel like it is coming from the front or back?
Have you done any service work on your rear parking brakes recently, or checked your rear brake calipers are not frozen?
The AWD P80 generation Volvos have a lot of potential issues at the rear of the cars with a multitude of axle and control arm bushes.
Start with the brakes and then start checking all the rear bushes for wear or damage.
Neil.

I would also take a good look at the upper and lower torque mounts as well as the sub frame bushings. These can cause some shaking when they fail completely.

I just replaced my upper torque mount and it did no good, my sub frame bushings dont look in the best shape so i might give those a shot. All brakes are fine, and the shake definitely feels from the front. It happens while going down the highway as well. The upper motor mount was bad for a while so it could have put more stress on the lower one but it looks to be fine

Could be a bad axle. When the inner joints die they tend to make a pretty noticeable wobble, especially under heavy acceleration. I'd get the car on pretty high on jack stands and really take a good look at everything. Check control arms, tie rods, sway bar links, etc. Grab your tire at the 12 and 6 position and see if there's any play, and repeat for 3 and 9.
In a safe position, you could try doing some turns in neutral and see if there's any major difference to help troubleshoot.

I did have weird vibrations when I bent my front right drive axle after -stupidly- hitting a pothole/ridge real hard. Vibrations where speed-related, but not necessarily related to cornering.
Replacing it with another (used) axle improved ride quality for me, but didn't entirely solve it.
It then further improved by balancing wheels and changing front wheels to back (and vice versa).
Still not as good as before though.
Did you hit a bump or anything?
Any strange noises?
Maybe start out with simple stuff: check tire pressure and rotate wheels front to back to see if that changes the ride? It may be as simple as a bent or unbalanced rim?
