Hi I have a 79 242 4 spd. I let my 22 yoa son drive same, and when he came back after several hours the clutch was slipping!!!????
I bought the car 3 yrs ago and it had a new clutch installed prior to purchasing. It ran flawlessly. KIDS!
Question: Can I adjust the clutch myself or is it hydraulic self adjusting? If i can do this myself is there an indepth posting instructing how as I don't have a Haynes or similar manual?
Thanks in advance,
Kevin

The clutch is cable operated and is adjustable.
Locate the clutch fork coming out of the transmission. The cable passes through a bracket on the side of the transmission. There will be two nuts on the cable, one either side of the bracket. Adjustment is by turning these nuts until there is free travel at the clutch fork of 3 - 4 mm (0.12 - 0.16 ins).
Bill.

Bill,
Thanks a bunch. I'll let you know how that goes. Incidently, if you're the guy whom advised me of the torque of the ball joints, you'll be happy to know I've put a couple three thousand miles on since
