Engine and trans question

Will the motor and trans from a 1989 245 fit a 1989 780? I have a chance to buy each from a running car for a cheap price, but want to make sure they will work as backups. Both are the L4’s. Thanks in advance.

What engine is currently in the 1989 Volvo 780? The 780 should have either a PRV V6 or a B230FT turbo 4 cylinder. The 240 is most likely a B230F, non-turbo.

That is correct. The one in the 780 is an In line 4 turbo while the one from the donor is an in line 4 non turbo.

You'd need to figure out an oil supply for the turbo and then figure out where to run the turbo oil drain when using the non-turbo engine. With the higher compression non-turbo engine of the 240 your better option would be to locate a good B230FT.
