I'm new to the forum and this is my first post. But off course this forum already helped me a lot!!
But now I'm working on a V70 (from a friend) that is acting very strange and I really could use some help and suggestions. The car is a V70 from 1999, 2.4 gasoline/LPG non turbo (400000 km). automat.
A few months ago the car started acting strange. It would start revving up and down without touching the pedal. Also while driving, the rev would go way up and so impossible to drive. She brought her car to a local mechanic who diagnosed a bad throttle body and so it was revised. A few days later same problem (aparrently also the brakes where not functioning very good when the problem occurred and she saw the dash lights dim together with the revs). So again to the mechanic. Again they revised the throttle body. But again the problem occurred. The strange thing is that it only happens from time to time, so the mechanic never experienced it while doing testdrives, neither did I.
What I did notice, was the ABS light was on and the speedometer and odometer disappeared from time to time. So I opened the ABS module and resoldered the cracked joints. One problem less! I also installed a new positive cable from the battery to the main fuse box, since the original cable was corroded and started to melt.
The car has a check engine light on, so I scanned it and two codes came on:
P0135 O2 sensor heater circuit Bank 1 sensor 1
P1671 no description available (but I know it's the CVVT solenoid)
She told me codes were always there since she bought the car and it never gave problems before.
what I also noticed is the battery of the car dies very fast (in 10 days). the battery drain is 70mA. it's the LPG module that is using most (around 60mA).
Since I fixed the cable and the ABS, she drove around a lot. So at first sight it seemed like the problem was solved, but yesterday the problem returned. She kept on driving and next time she tried starting the car, it went in limp mode. After ten minutes with the contact turned off, everything went back to normal and she could drive home without any problems. Strange!
What would you guys suggest doing next? off course she doesn't want to spent all her money on an old car without being sure of the result
. Does it have to do something with the software? Or maybe it's the CVVT solenoid? Can I reload the software myself if I purchase a (chinese) Dise/Vida? or to difficult?I would love to fix this problem... it's driving me mad!!!
