Hi folks.

As part of some minor rehab to my 1999 s70, I want to replace the shifter knob. Mine has a divot out of it and I have a 1998 donor car with a perfect shifter knob.

I have read some removal threads out there and they left me confused. This seems to be a touch job (an old VW of mine just required you to unscrew the knob).

Can anyone explain how these are attached? Is it possible to remove a manual knob without destroying it?

Several threads mention pulling hard but I'm not sure if you have to release some clips or not.
For the folks that have done this, is it just a strong pull or do you have to have jerk it off?
Anyone know if the process differs from a 5 speed 98 and a 5 speed 99?

It'd be easier to remove the entire shifter with the knob intact than just taking the knob off without destroying it.

You know what? Shame on me but I hadn't thought of that. That makes a ot of sense.

Thanks for that suggestion. I'm sitting here laughing at myself for not even thinking about that. :-)
