Is the 1987 Volvo 245 DL supposed to have a black diagnostic box?
I just bought a 1987 245 DL. It has a manual transmission. I don"t see the black box anywhere. My 1990 had one. Do the 1987 models not have it?

This is a LH2.3. I don't see a 2.3 anywhere. Would it be called 2.2 or 2.4?

Volvo started using self-diagnostics on its Bosch LH 2.4 engine management systems in 1988 on 700 series non-turbo cars and in Regina-equipped cars. 1987 is one model year before that.

The diagnostics with ports in one place started with 1989 model year production start late May of 1988. There were single wire diagnostics with very limited scope for LH 2.0, 2.1(1984 turbo 700's), and LH 2.2. The ignition systems used with LH 2.1 and 2.2 on 700's also had limited diagnostics via a single wire lead with single digit flash codes.
Any vehicle with SRS also has a single wire access port either as a loose wire or in one side of an unused fuse location in a fuse panel.
700/900 electric climate control 1988-1998 has diagnostics on the control panel using the diagnostics controls positioning and button depression to command code display and other functions.
