1989 740GL intermittant no fuel pump power
I have an intermittant problem, never knowing when my 740 will start. 5 out of ten times it has no fuel pump power when turning the key on, I wiggled the wires at the fuel pump, turned the key on and off multiple times and then the pump started working (the one under the center of the car), by the way it is a 8valve 2.3l jettronic , any ideas, thanks
I am no expert by any means but my 740 did the exact same thing for about a month till it would not start at all. it turned out the contacts on the pump motor finally wore out. I made the mistake of buying an after market pump from autozone. as it turns out my make 1991 740 had a different type of injection system and the only pump that would put out the right pressure and draw the right current was from the dealer.

Search this forum for my posts on fuel pumps. Your car has TWO of them. Don't replace the main pump (under the car) without replacing the in-tank pump at the same time. My posts will explain why. I know that this problem is more common than most people think, that is why I harp on it so much.
