Fog Lights

2002 S60 2.4T with factory fog lights. My fog lights don't seem to throw much light onto places I would like more light. Is the aim of the lights adjustable?

Also, and maybe this is a dumb question, but in real fog does one use both the headlights and the fog lights, or the fog lights alone? I thought using them alone would make sense, since you want to eliminate the blinding bounce of the headlights against the fog, but the fog lights alone aren't really enough light.

Check your fog lights. If they are older and the plastic covers are glazed they will shine less brightly.
They can be adjusted. Reach underneath each one. In the rear of the light is a rod, twist it to adjust the lights UP, just feel around you will find it.
You can always put a better (brighter) bulb in but beware, use the same wattage bulb as OEM as if you go higher, you can fry the harness.
You can go with Sylvania Silverstars for instance

The Fog lights on the S60 arn't exactly practical, they are pretty pathetic.

I prefer to adjust the dipped beam height if I get reflection off fog/snow etc
makes a big difference.

Changing the bulbs will make a big difference though - but aye as said don't exceed the wattage.

The rear light is a single light on one side of the car only (I believe the drivers' side). This is so you are more readily noticed. With 2 lights, it just looks like regular running lights.

MIJ, I'm pretty sure he is talking about the front ones, but as far as the rear fog light(s) you can break out the little plastic hole obstruction and then you can put a bulb in there and then you have a matched look when you turn them on (one on each side rather than just one side brighter than the other). Kinda fun if you ever want to get someone off your tailgate - hit the rear fog button.

There''s only one rear Fog light for a reason.

Putting another one in is asking for trouble. People have been prosecuted before now for doing this, as it masks the brake lights.
since you've modifed the vehicle form Standard - your insurance will also be void.
Not worth it for the sake of it looking symetrical.

It doesn't much matter since I hardly ever turn the rears on.

I think it just makes it look like you have a bulb burnt out on one side if you only have 1 fog light. Besides, if it were a serious issue they wouldn't make it so easy to add the other light back in....
