I remember The Underlord's project where he used "Peel n Seel" all over his interior paneling to quiet his ride up. Just for reference, my car is an 2001-V70-T5.
I finally found a shop that sells peel n seal (Ebay). I have a few questions about how your(The Underlord's or anyone else's) project went:
How did you learn how to disassemble the rear trim, and tailgate trim? I've wanted to take that apart for a long time(I have some pet hair that I've wanted to clean out ). And how much peel n seal did you use? I am buying this stuff online for $1.75/foot, with $7ship/unliminted feet, I just want to buy it all at in one order. Have you heard of this stuff peeling back off?
Anyone's knowledgable support about any part of this post would be great.
thanks

well hey there!
here's the link to my "peel and seal" thread on volvospeed.
http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/index.ph ... opic=47981
Basically I used 4 rolls, for a total cost of 60 bucks. It's available at any Lowe's harware store, and it's in the roofing section.
Its very easy to install, i just used some acetone to clean the metal, and a good sharp boxcutter to cut the peices. The final result is amazing, the car is so much more quiet. I have a competition grade stereo system in the car, and its barely audible outside of the car, which is what I wanted to gain from this project.
dissasembling the rear trim, on my car is pretty easy, i'm not quite sure on your 01, but i imagine its sorta the same. Be sure and order extra clips from the dealer, as I broke a bunch of mine getting it all apart. And also, i stuffed home fiberglass insulation in the rear tailgate itself, then sealed it all up with the peel and seal.

Thanks, I just wonder, how much peel 'n' seel did you use roughly? (in sq. ft.) "4 rolls" doesn't help me at all, while I'm buying by the square foot. I'm thinking around 20 square feet would do it, but that's just a wild guess. Maybe use the extra left overs in the spare-tire area... most important to have enough for the doors, the rear, and the tailgate. I hear you can do more than one-layer, (each sheet is 1/8" thick), would it make a significant differance?
For anyone/everyone else out there who is interested in a low-cost, alternative to dynamat, you can buy it for $1.75/ sq. ft, and $7 shipping/unlimited ft. It costs MUCH less than the Dynamat brand name products.

I used about two rolls of peel 'n seal for just the front and rear doors (single layer) and it made a big difference in how much quieter the interior became.
You can use multiple layers of it and it may work well depending on your placement. You might want to just try a single layer first and add more later. Also, you can use it underneath the floor carpeting for more effect.

Not sure if this is exactly the fix you want but.....I drive a 94 850 turbo wagon and noticed its ride was fairly rough. I switched my tires to Falken Ziex 512 all the way around and it made a night and day difference. Traction was excellent but the ride quality was as good or better than replacing my struts/springs for softer units. Sidewall flex was not an issue either. Hope this helps.

That's a good point - tire brand, size, type and condition all have an affect on the road noise you're hearing (or not).
In FUBAR's case though, adding sound insulation for the interior also helps contribute to reducing the outside noises and it's a lot less expensive to pick up a couple rolls of peal 'n seal at Lowe's than ordering a new set of tires.

I also have a 2001 V70 T5 that I'm finding to be a little loud. Much of my noise seems to be coming from inside the cabin via the plastic center console, the wood dash and other misc/mysterious places. I know some of this is do in part to running Perelli P6 45 series tires. But I have stock springs and shocks and get more squeaks and rattles than I should from a loaded V70 with 50,000 miles on it.
Does anyone have any recommendations for quieting the noises coming from inside of the cabin? Do I need to buy some special lube, etc.?
Any help would be much appreciated!

I replaced the air in my tyre's with nitrogen-my local tyre store provides this service-make's a big difference to road noise, and handling actually-tyre's seem to 'roll' less in corners-cost me

I'm debating whether to do this or not in my S70. I put a new 3" turbo back exhaust on and it has a deep drone in the cabin on the highway and I'm wondering if just lining the trunk area would eliminate most of this or not.

It probably won't silence it completely, but if you put down 2 or more layers, you will for sure notice a difference. After I changed over to bilstein hd shocks, I put 2 layers on all my doors and the tailgate and the difference was amazing. The amount of sound that transmits through is severely muffled. While I was at it, I noticed pieces like the spare tire tool kit were loose and I also cleaned out sand and other messes that were down there. To completely make sure my spare tire area wasn't going to clink around, I removed the spare tire, put 2 layers peel n seel and then replaced the tire, only this time on top of an old carpet pad.
I think for you the best way is to concentrate on that spare tire zone, and then move on to the rest of the car.
