Hi All!
As you may have read in my other posts I bought a 1987 245 that is having an issue with spark but no fuel. Well, I just bought another one. This is a 1989 240 DL. I got it for $300.The owner was restoring it so it has alot of new parts. He sold it because it developed a rear seal leak that drips quite a bit. This one runs and drives.
Suggestions about repairing it? I've been looking at sealers to add to the oil especially AT-205 or Lucus Engine oil Stop Leak. I've also have been looking at the reviews on it. AT-205 sounds like it actually works.
Also, are the parts interchangable between 1987 and 1989?

UPDATE: Here is what I found out about the oil leak. When the car is running it drips a drop every once in a while. When it is turned off after driving it leaks it in a stream for a couple of minutes and then goes back to just dripping. It is coming from the rear seal. Other than that issue it runs great.
My thought is too much oil pressure?
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Although it sounds like it may be too late, I would check out the PCV system. It may be clogged, which increases pressure at seals around the engine. It's possible that by replacing the PCV box and corresponding tubes you may slow the oil leak, but chances are you will need to replace that real main seal to complete solve that problem.

when you say "rear seal", are you talking about crank or cam? is the oil coming from the top or bottom? at-205 is great for mild leaks, i haven't had good luck with leaks like drips that occur when the engine is pressurized.
either way, best, most long-term solution would be to replace it. i had a cam seal start leaking a bit, and completely failed within a week. same situation, would weep after shutting the car off. came out after work one day and there was a gallon of oil in the road haha.
+1 to dorvin, leak could be made worse by high crank pressure from a clogged pcv. seal shouldn't leak tho.
