CD Changer: where to install?

Post by DOK »

I want to install a CD changer in my 850 Wagon. So I was wondering where to put it.

Maybe someone can tell me where an original factory-installed CD changer is installed in the car.

Thanks.
Oliver

on most of the 850s it is installed somewhere in the trunk, but you have a wagon, so that doesn't really help you much. It doesn't matter really where it is installed as long as it is accesible and out of the way of cargo. Some careful detective work may yield the stock mounting location. If you can, gently pull up some of the carpet in the cargo area and look for some unused holes in the sheetmetal.
Hope this helps,

Exactly: accessible and out of the way, that's my goal. And invisible from the outside (if possible), because I don't have a cover for the cargo area.

I couldn't find anything yet. But I think I once saw a replacement part somewhere for one side floor-panel, which would house the changer. And my guess would be the left floor panel, as it's larger than the right one. But the space under the floor panel is obstructated by a black plastic part, which is countinuing upwards behind the left side covering. So, in my opinion there's not enough space to completely hide the changer, even if I would remove the plastic thing (whatever it's good for).

I thought of that too, but I'd like to keep the storage capability (for gloves, etc. :) ). I also thought of mounting it under the front seats, but I fear, that the occanional rear seat passengers will trample my changer (it's surprising what they do to the floor mats).

Bye. And thanks for your input.

Correct, the original location for hte Volvo chager was the left had side of hte load bay, under the floor. The panel pops out and a replacement panel with a hinged lid pops in it's place

Thanks Dick.

OK, so I will visit my dealer and ask for a price for that panel and than maybe build my own.
