Question - disconnecting the battery

This may be a rather common question, but I'm still confused... I bought a battery switch https://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-Batt ... 2749.l2649 only to realize this will not fit on the + terminal, because it gets too close to the metallic chassis. So I'm going to install it on the - terminal. My question is, when working on the car is it enough/safe to disconnect only the - terminal?

Yes it is. If the electrons can’t flow back to the battery they can make no fire.

Disconnecting the negative terminal first is the right way to go to begin with. Even without a switch.
