2001 turbo to non turbo engine swap

Post by greygraygreigh »

so I have a 2001 s60 2.4t with numerous problems i tried to fight through but lost the battle.. ultimately it needs a new engine and trans. I found a really immaculately maintained donor same year and everything just non turbo.. it was very well maintained unfortunately got hit at an intersection in the driver side door... only the side air bags went off and the only real damage is to the door, seat and fender. well I need to figure out what I need to know or issues I might encounter swapping the engine and transmission out of that car and into mine.

my main concern is avoiding going to volvo to do anything with the software.. if the ecu with the donor engine goes in my car is it adapt properly? any other quirks of these cars I should know about? Id imagine it would be a good idea to get a vida/dice unit but is it necessary?

No no no. Too much to do. Too much network stuff in these P2s to change aspiration easily. You'll need to swap the engine loom. Get a turbo donor

Depending on your location, this site may help you find an engine:

http://www.car-part.com/

If you pull one from a wrecking yard like Pick-n-Pull, look for a donor car that has suffered terminal body damage - good chance the engine/trans were still working OK up until the crash. If there isn't significant exterior damage then there's a bigger chance the car was scrapped due to engine or trans failure.
