New V70 2005 Owner Stereo Upgrade

Post by IslandV70 »

Hi - new guy here. I am picking up a 2005 V70 2.4 in a day or two. It has an HU-650 radio that works fine, but has no MP3/Bluetooth/Aux in, so it is a bit primitive for 2018.
So I did some Google-Fu and pretty much any car stereo will fit in there and hook up, but the steering wheel controls are another story. No one admits to have a way to use the steering wheel controls :( I hate having non-working things! So is there a way to do this?
THANKS!

There are adapters available for the steering wheel controls but I've heard of varying degrees of success using them since there are several different CAN generations used between the years and the specs for the adapters are usually very vague.

A Grom or similar dongle will I think let you keep the wheel controls.

BTW I tried using an Alpine head unit with the Volvo amp at first when I did my switch. Sound was really poor and tinny so I ended up with a separate amp beneath the floor in the boot.

Crutchfield's website let's you specify your car and an aftermarket radio. Under accessories you can select steering wheel controls.
https://www.crutchfield.com/g_300/All-C ... r_Required

The Axxess ASWC-1 has worked with some Volvos but is not showing as compatible with a '04 V70, but it may be worth a call to them to check.

I have a Pioneer DEX-P99RS from them in my '06 S60 but I did not bother with steering controls. I also have an aftermarket amp running tweeters, midrange and subs actively.

I am not sure why, but no one will admit to having something for a 2005 :( Maybe they still have "learning" converters that can detect the button presses?

This company seems to have the interface: https://www.cruxinterfacing.com/list...#compatibility
The key to all this is many websites seem to index on the *XC70* and ignore the V70.
