2004 Volvo RPM issues
2004 Volvo RPM issues
I recently got my 2004.5 Volvo S40 2.4i back and I'm having some issues. When I'm slowing down/stopping my RPMs DROP. I mean when I'm sitting at 2000 RPMs and I let off the gas pedal the RPMs drop to 800ish in 2 seconds. Also when I'm coming to a stop the RPMs drop to below the 800 line and bounce back up. Is this normal? I've cleaned the throttle body before and sprayed the IAC sensor but it didn't seem dirty. I can take pictures or add videos if that would help. Any advice would be helpful thank you

That drop below 800s at a stop is exactly what I had several times and each time cure was a good tb clean up. Did you cleane in and out especially near the flap hinges ? www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGxVoGbDK1I
One thing is I found some soot at that place, and I feel it's caused by some incomplete mixture burn. I believe your 2.4i has the same intake air thermostat as my 2.4i S60 www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOx3Q8vqoz4
Maybe also check the hoses at the intake manifold

Yes I cleaned it thoroughly but I'll give it another go. I pulled the codes and got P0011, camshaft intake position sensor timing over advanced. I'm going to pull it tomorrow and clean it off. I know it's not out of timed because I just had the timing belt replaced and it's been doing this before that as well.
