Does anyone have any experience with this used Volvo guy in Portland? Always posts a lot of nice looking 240s, often hyper-detailed to look like new. Very high asking prices. Curious whether they ever get those prices. Address appears to be out on a strip in Gresham where there isn't anything but a car stereo shop. The nice CL photos are in a newer warehouse district north of there closer to the river.
I have a friend interested in one of these cars, trying to get some background.
Thanks -

That mint 1990 240 DL with 54K for sale at my dealer for $14,000.00 sold for full price! Truly it was a new car in complete original condition without a single nick in the paint and that older Volvo new car smell still. I have kicked myself for not buying it several times now... So I would say yes some people will pay big bucks for a really clean old Volvo. June

In this example, I assume this dealership examined vehicle, did required maintenance, and maybe offered a warranty. Whereas Portland reseller uses a detail shop to clean/polish them up. In example shown, he's attempting to impress a buyer by showing previous maintenance/inspections...razzle-dazzle them.
Yes, people with disposable income can have multiple vehicles, or vehicles at their vacation homes with few miles. But how often oil changes were done is something to consider.
Is a 1990 vehicle worth $14,000.00....@ 54k....if they stand behind it, and have fully evaluated it. But if sold by Mr. Razzle/Dazzle, vehicle needs to be fully evaluated by a local Volvo dealership, with part replacement where needed, and with their perspective (opinion) given.
Needless to say, vehicle should be essentially rust-free, and clean. And with Bosch EFI, not K-Jet.

I looked on local.google.com for 219th S.E. Stark St. Gresham, OR 97030 there looks to be no actual car dealer but a car parts store at that address. I would also ask the VIN number and look up on Carfax, just to be sure the mileage wasn't rolled back. Anyhow, he sounds like a skilled pitching sales guy, kinda turns me off but that's just me

Agree on getting VIN and real background.
Yes, the address appears to be that of a car stereo shop on a strip in E Portland. The nice photos are taken at some new warehouses north of there closer to the river.
If you read the long fine print in his craigslist ads, there is no warranty whatsoever, it is a used car, as-is, where-is situation.
I'm hearing from a NW source that he scours the country for nice 240s, and sells - or tries to sell them - for top dollar. Many are worth half of what he's asking, and some have been advertised for over a year. Some have the engine compartment sprayed flat black. Up close, some of the touch-ups aren't that good. I think you need to see the car in person (which is always the case, especially with a 30 yr old car).
Another source said a super clean 240 manual wagon might get 7 or 8k on eBay, and often goes back to Sweden.

How about a '91 240 wagon, manual, cloth seats, special order, appears in near perfect condition (photos), 138,000mi, $12,900? Seems really high.
