New ignition switch

I have a 1999 Volvo v70xc that I bought for my daughter's first car. Ignition lock cylinder locked up found a used one that works, new cylinder came with new ignition switch so I replaced it too. Tried to start car with new key and it wont start. At the time I didn't think about the immobilizer and the old key was hanging in the house. Now do I have to take it somewhere to get the immobilizer reset or will removing the battery reset it. Any help is appreciated. As a side note I am an old shade tree mechanic but I do work on all 3 of our vehicles.

You can try attaching the old key to the new key and start the car like that while you are searching for the long-term solution. If the immob antenna can 'see' the chip she will start

I have the chip attached to the antenna ring and the new key has no chip. I removed all the plastic off new key.

Someone with a full VIDA subscription needs to marry the new key to the car, you can't use the cheap Chinese knockoff software.

Ive found the key needs to be in the right place to the antenna, within a cm, to work on my S70, 1999 model.

The new keys do not have a chip. The old chip is taped to the back side of the antenna ring directly over the pin connector. I tried to start car without having the old key in the car. The first time it started but immediately shut off like in a second since then it will not start. I don't see any immobilizer light on my dash. I have taken the battery out and it's been on the charger for 6 hours. Will taking battery out reset the immobilizer?

Disconnecting the battery will not reset the immobilizer

The start/stall and then no start is classic failure of the immbolizer to successfully recognize the key, so you need to get that chip in the right place.

Put battery in and with old chip taped to antenna ring tried starting car. This is what it does; engine turns over, plugs are firing, and by opening Schrader valve on fuel rail I can tell fuel pump is working because gas shoots out of valve good pressure. When I pull spark plugs they are dry and there's no gas smell in cylinder. Does this seem like immobilizer problem? If so do I need to take car to have computer flashed?

If it is still doing the start stall first time, the key isn’t being read. Nothing will help until that is fixed.

IIRC, on the ‘99-‘00’s, the security system shuts down the
injectors if it’s not happy. Sounds like it’s functioning properly.

Attaching the chip over connector may not be the best spot.
Just for fun, tape it to the key where it would be from the factory.
If the car starts and runs, you’re most of the way there.

Attached chip to key this morning and the car wouldn't start so then I changed the antenna ring from the original one to the one that came with the new ignition switch and it started right up. I had tried the new antenna ring with the chip attached to it . I think the chip must be read in all positions of the switch. Thanks to everyone who offered solutions to my problem. Now to put car back together.
