Spark Plug question

Had a 2001 s60 non-turbo....sold it and bought a 2008 s60 2.5T. Have a new set of Volvo plugs for the 2001 and want to know if they are fine for the 2008 turbo. Volvo # on plugs is 8642660. The package says for all 5 cylinder exl turbo. Most aftermarket plugs do not differentiate between turbo and non turbo for this engine.

I believe this is because the Volvo plugs are pre-gapped. You may be able to adjust the gap, although I have seen a note that re-gapping a pre-gapped plug could result in damage to the electrode: https://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-s60 ... #post64367

The plugs themselves may be a different length depending on the year and/or turbo status.

The package specifically says excluding turbo, and you want to know if you can install them on a car that has a turbo? Really?

Recommendation: Sell the 8642660 package and purchase the correct Volvo PN for your 2008 S60 2.5T. If you search the forum, you will find that the correct spark plugs have a big impact the correct performance of your car. You'll never go wrong with the correct Volvo PN plugs.

Stop with the snippy remarks...there is nothing magical about a turbo car...yes if run hard it runs hotter and most mfgs recommend a platinum or iridium plug as a result because it lasts longer than a copper one....but a copper one will wok fine and is actually better if the car is older (because the suface area for th spark is larger and it is less subject to fouling. Please don't repy unless you know something.

I do know something. In 18 years of owning a "nothing magical...turbo car", the correct Volvo plugs have never let me down and never caused a problem (ie. misfire). Now, it you want to disregard the recommendations from Volvo, you are welcome to put them into your car. I trust the Volvo design engineers more than just any opinion on a car forum.

I do hope you get the answer you are looking for.

If they are three electrode plugs don't use them in the turbo.

Cu Pt or Ir are all fine, as long as you respect the service life (roughly 30k, 50k, 75k) but the type does matter.

Single electrodes for turbo

Triple or single for NA

Volvo PN 8642660 is a 3 prong plug not designed for use in a turbo engine. Admins, please show the topic is solved.
