04 XC70 dash clock gains time

This is an odd one, every three or four days I will notice that the dash clock has gained a couple of minutes. I've gotten in the habit of checking it to my atomic calibrated watch every time I get in and adjusting the clock accordingly. It's always gained minutes, never behind. The car battery is only 3 years old and according to my scangauge it has good voltage. There are no other issues with the DIM as far as I can tell but I ought to get vida hooked up and see if there is something in there. Could this be a symptom leading to some chip failure?

What is the manufacturing month ? There is an SRS inspection sticker with making date on the left rear door frame, with the month stamped (plus a date+10 years). If it's an early 2004, might be the DIM issue, my 2003 started like that with the clock going time travel now and then, then got worse with the message display loosing pixels

You need to slow down. The faster you drive,you contract time, and when you get home, more time has elapsed for your relatives that have stayed still.

This is probably a deep chip issue on the DIM which was an imprecise resistor trim at time of manufacture

Thanks for the replies. The build date is April 04. I looked at xemodex's site for the DIM repair,

Our repair resolves issues with intermediate or permanent operation, no communication, self-advancing clock, scrambled message display, twitchy gauges.

So I may end up sending it to them if other issues show up. Until then I will keep it under 88mph.

They are good, however quite expensive but quick turn around. We also need to have the car battery disconnected when the DIM is out, so as not to get an SRS messag & light

I can probably clear that code for you if you have to drive it without the the DIm on next trip through BeanTown.

What functions go dead when the DIM fails? I have a scangauge stuck to the top of the steering column cover and could use that to display mph, rpm, fuel level and whatever if needed. It was more useful in my old 98 V70 I used to have then I put it in the xc. I miss having a fuel gauge marked in gallons! When it's not winter my primary vehicle is my trusty suzuki DR650, getting 50mpg...but it doesn't haul my kayak.
