Not recommended on the turbo. Basically, drive near a wall with window opened in a hot summer day, depress the pedal half way and listen for engine pinging.

I wouldn't.. ethanol? You really should run a high octane in these VOLVO turbo engines I use 94 .. unleaded fuels burn cooler than the old leaded fuels and the lower the octane.. the more that the engine will " carbon up"... Sunoco.Shell..BP..in that order..my opinion

Ethanol has a higher octane than petrol..
However the car won't like it. Some people around here seem to get away with a 50/50 mix without the ECU complaining. I ran an old 850 on E85 for a few years by sticking turbo injectors on a NA engine to compensate for the extra 20-30% fuel needed. Worked well as long as it was warm out but it was hard to get started in the cold.

MDK here...so here's what I know. Here in the states..they started producing corn grain ethanol. Probably around 2002 or so the state of Ohio started using the flex fuel Ford Taurus. One day I was at the gas station and 2 state employees were filling up with E85. I asked them what they thought about it compared to regular gasoline. He said... "well, we burn through it faster and runs like crap in the winter". I'm not what you would call a tech but I think that there's some kind of conversion kit to run e85. Kinda like what rattnalle had mentioned about swapping out the injectors..

Ethanol is what kills the emulsifier tube in my snow blower
In Canada, some gas stations say there is no ethanol in the 91 octane (Shell is one of these). But would you believe them ? These guys fill their underground tanks at night, who knows how the tanker driver 'mistakenly' puts the '87' hose inside the '91' tank... In the US several gas stations (including big brands) have been condemned for mixing the fuel grades inside their tanks.. and I guess it still goes on today

There's probably etanol in all petrol over here by now, perhaps with a rare few exceptions. It was described as a catastrophe beforehand but then nothing came of it. We were promised all our cars would brake down and so on.

People on car fora love to blame gas for their poor running, and not their lack of maintenance. Bad petrol/gas (either ethanol or other) is really a vanishing occurrence in all but really backwards places.
