2002 V70XC P0502

Post by Tylertech92 »

Hello all, First post here and First Volvo also, i recently purchased this vehicle and it had some engine lights, ive taken care of them all but one.

The Engine light i am receiving is P0502-Vehicle Speed Sensor "A" Circuit Low. The ABS light is on and also the traction control light is on, I am currently wondering where to begin on trouble shooting unless there is a straight forward answer on what to fix. i am in need of repairing this soon as i drive it to work a good distance on thruway and need cruise control, also it is preventing it from passing inspection. any help would be appreciated Thank you in advance

You need a code reader that can read the Brake Control Module (BCM) and the Transmission Control Module (TCM). VIDA-DiCE is recommended. Generic code readers cannot read the BCM or the TCM.

Best guess based on what information you have it is: the BCM AKA ABS.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ECM-530D (P0502) Speed signal. Signal too low

Condition
Internal functions in the engine control module (ECM) check important parameters.
The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if the engine control module (ECM) detects that the speed has not changed over a certain number of seconds.

Substitute value
None.

Possible source
  • Faulty speed signal from the brake control module (BCM)
Faulty speed signal from the transmission control module (TCM).
Fault symptoms
Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) lit.

Same hardware different software. Even if you get one from a 2002 V70XC, it still needs to be married to the vehicle. Software reload at the dealer or a software transfer by a cloner.

The Dice tool which is purchased with the fleabay Vida software is a good programming tool but you need the cloners to access your car via internet.

Budget $200 or so to have a cloner restore your CEM.

DOublebug and Yagger are the users here who are highly recommended.

Look at Abscate's post above. Doublebug and Yagger are the MVS members who perform the clone service. Just search their names on MVS and PM them. Sergey (Yagger) is in California

You'll need the Dice tool in any case as Volvo ownership pretty much demands it unless you have a sibling who is a dealer.

The $400 is well spent with XeModex if you have that kind of loose change lying around.
