K&N filter & Check Engine

Post by vizigot »

Changed the stock filter with K&N. It seems to me that the car has a better response. This happened this summer. 1 week later, the check engine light came on :?: . Checked with OBD, and gave me a MAF sensor problem. Pulled it out and cleaned it with contact cleaner. 2-3 weeks later same thing happened again, and did the same procedure. It was very hot, and I also floored the gas pedal a few times. After that it cooled off, and did not experience this again. :D

Could it be that being too hot, the oil on the filter was flowing off and small droplets landed on the MAF? Anybody had this problem?

Did the same thing on a 2001 Mazda Tribute V6 I own. It was identical.
