1999 + P80 HVAC Heater Blend Motor 9134729 replacement ?

Post by FlyingVolvo »

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has any experience replacing this part on a 99+ P80? From what I understand, 99+ only have 1 motor that controls both sides. My passenger side will only go full hot or full cold, and my driver's side mostly works though is a bit sticky sometimes.

Does the dash need to come out to do this job? Anything else I need to consider or know about?

Robert has a video on this but it isn't applicable. Thanks in advance!

There is a chassis split during the 1999 1998 model year from the dual blend motors to the s8ngle one, but it’s pretty early in the production run. My 11/98 T5 has the single motor

I think you can get it off the climate system with the driver kick plate panel removed , you might need some low profile Torx drivers for the bolts, or a flexible driver extension
maybe.

Ugh, fail. See pic below

On the '99 I think the only way you can get that out is to pull out the dash.

Alldata reports one hour for this replacement, with three screws attaching, so Volvo thinks you can do this with HVAC installed

It was a change done early in 97 when the 98 production started. Part of the updates for the transition from 850 to s/v/xc/c 70. The 97 down had the two motors or used two cables on non ECC cars. The 70's got electric air distribution motor with the cam wheel but temp remained two motors, one on each side of case. The picture in last post has air distribution circled in red, temps are below that area. The attached photo shows them but the illustration is a little off. The left side is actually a little lower. In this illustration due to the angle it might seem it is on the same level but behind that left damper motor for air distribution. This is an 850 case, I could not find the illustration for the 70 series case but the temp damper motors L and R did not change in the revision.

Jimmy - is there a shot at doing this with the dash in or are you doomed to removal?

Mod note - added part number to title, changed 99 to 1999 for search

You might be able to do this with just removing the cluster and the dash top and undertray. It will be a tight and a pain to access. I had the full dash out to repair the broken mounts last time I had to access this. If you have time maybe a visit to a junkyard if they have a V/S70 and try pulling the dash top and undertray to see if you can get enough access before tackling your own car?

I will try to see if I still have pictures from my 2000 V70 base rebuild. I can't recall if I documented it as part of the process.

Thanks everyone for the info so far. Looks like it will likely be a pain that I probably won't tackle unless I have something else to go with it e.g. AC evaporator.

I'm curious to know if if this part is as easy as pulling it off and replacing it. The side of the motor that mates to car looks interesting.

Additionally, does anyone know if it would require calibration through VIDA or anything?
