Volvo Repair Database C30 oil pan replacement

Post by C30Manny »

So last night I hit a hump on a dark road pretty hard, felt like I was in a dukes of hazard episode when the car lifted off the road. I immediately saw the oil light come on and the car drove for about 5-10 minutes before all the lights came on and the engine shut down. Looked under the car and saw a gaping hole (see pictures). I’m no mechanic but will replacing the oil pan be something the average guy with some tools can do or do I save up to pay a mechanic? And how much would that typically cost?

Driving the 5 to 10 minutes and then the engine shutting down is you main concern. You should do a compression check first or if you choose, do something similar to see how it runs before spending your time and money on the pan.

Example Only:

1) Take a piece of sheet metal and hammer to form around the hole.
2) Fold a thickish piece of tin foil and cover the sheet metal edge then tape the entire thing with aluminum plumbers tape
3) Change the filter and replace with some cheap oil and run the car
4) Place oil drain pan under the hole in case it leaks or drips.

If the car runs fine then proceed with the pan replacement.

.
"The average cost for a Volvo C30 engine oil pan replacement is between $962 and $1,089. Labor costs are estimated between $316 and $400 while parts are priced between $646 and $689. Estimate does not include taxes and fees.
Note about price: This service is typically done as part of a bigger, more expensive repair, so the estimate you see above may not represent your total cost. Some of these bigger related repairs are listed in the table below. Talk with a RepairPal Certified shop to learn which repairs may be right for you."
