2003 V70 wiring loom
2003 V70 wiring loom
Hi all, as we are on lockdown here in NZ i have time to do my motor swap, the question I have is I have a different motor, the dismantler said this Is a high pressure turbo motor, do i need the loom from the new motor or can I use the same loom thats in the car thanks.

Kia ora, is it from the same year model?..Doyou have a whole donar car or just the motor?. i have a 2001 and a 2002xc70 and ive found much of the wiring is the same, but being a different year there are many changes/improvements and you may encounter the need for fun plug/connector/pin swappings. sounds like a fun job

I am no expert, but would suggest you compare block part numbers, intake numbers and most important turbo part numbers. Hopefully the only difference is the turbos. Maybe the only difference is software for the turbos in which case the turbo part numbers should match or cross reference as the same. If the turbos are the only difference I would swap over the old turbos.
Assuming the turbos are different, my fear is the computer in your car is tuned to for the low pressure variant and you will have boost issues with the high pressure version. You will have to do some reading on the subject - I did a quick study and there is plenty out there. It may be possible to retune the computer, but that is a new can of worms.
I have always found the path of least issues is to use as much original as possible - so keep the harness. Where sensors don't mate move them from original motor to the donor. Other approach is to match part numbers and they are a match you can keep the donor ones if it is a newer motor. Keep your original motor or at least strip it of all duplicative parts for spares - one never knows if the donor motor is fully functional or if you will have failures in the future. Keep a note of everything that doesn't match as it will provide clues on differences if you have operational issues.

Would help if you post the VIN numbers of the cars and engine ID numbers oof the engine blocks.
