Automatic Transmission fluid

Post by Praja108 »

I am about to change the trans fluid in my 2002 XC70. I was sold Penrite ATFMHP004
After logging my cars registration number.

My question is whether it is actually suitable.

First question does your XC70 use the AW50-51 transmission? Just want to make sure as sometimes non-USA based cars throw in a diesel trick or a stick shift.

The back of the bottle, from the photo I pulled up, it states it is Toyota Type IV compatible. It also has a listing for Volvo 3344208/97341.

It is a multi-vehicle fluid, but based on their specs it should work. Not sure it is ideal.

Are you draining and filling the sump (~3.5 liters) or something more?
Kilometerage, please
Any operational problems?

Yes I'm doing a drain and fill, not a flush. Plus I thought to add a bottle of Rislone Trans fix too. As for issues, there is a flare (revving), btwn 2nd and 3rd gear and she acts up when at running temperature. She's clocked up 232, 000 kms.

The fluid has likely not been serviced before.
Expect near black fluid to drain. I wouldn't add anything until I got the fluid nearer red.
Reaching said cleanliness can involve several drain & fills or a pump-out.
See if Aisin fluid is available. Aisin made your unit and is what I used for my last drain & fill.
I've used several "other" fluids in 4 of these transmissions with success.
Alas, the brand names used in No. America are not those used in your neck of the woods so listing them won't help.

Several people have mentioned using the Rislone product with success.
I used LubeGard in the red bottle after reading about it and experienced marked success.
