Crank, no start. Just replaced Fuel pump.

Post by alpha318 »

Hello!
I have a 98 volvo V70 XC.

A couple weeks ago, fuel pump decided to go out. So, ordered a new one, and installed it. Aside from a 4th connector, everything plugged right in.
Another word thing, before I hooked everything back up, I tested the fuel flow out of the pump. The passenger side fuel port pumped fuel, while the driver side didn't.
Has anyone else had this problem?

How did you diagnose pump failure? Did you rule out pump relay issues by bridging pins 15 and 87 on the relay?

Fuel pump was diagnosed as such.
30ish PSI at the rail, and was fluttering.
Was always loud at idle, but after a trip over highway, the fuel pump became even more obnoxious, loud that is.
Then the hard starting followed.

so i have a symptom to add.... My fuel lines... They vibrate when you "wiggle" the fuel discharge line.
Also, the fuel is pouring out, not spraying out of the fuel rail, or the valve by the fuel filter.
I'm at a loss... Any ideas?

So, I want to close this post.

The fuel pump was bad, even though it was new. Buyer beware!!
Just buy a FCP euro fuel pump. Worth every dollar!!

How did you go after this pump? Did you drop the rear subframe or cut the floor?

Any pictures?
