So as I am finishing cleaning up this 1997 Volvo 850 Wagon for Sale sure enough, the shifter button pops out and I push it bak in and doesn't work! -- and the whole shifter is embarrassing as it is like peeling pieces of rubber now after sitting with a humid interior for a year. I tried Shiftlock release button at first and it was starting to shift until the booth popped out. So I hope it is only the button and not anything else that I have Seen referenced.
Anyway can someone please tell me what to do when I get my new shifter. I have seen tutorials on replacing them. But they mention putting the vehicle into a different gear than Park. IS there something else I should do first to release the shifter from gear.
What was concerning is that shift lock release didn't seem to be working and I am not sure if it is tied into the shift button in that the shift lock release won't work if the button is broke. Pardon my bad english there. Thanks for your time...
I have a week or so to figure this out. I gave up on local salvage yard and ordered a full nice wooden shifter from the only eBay seller that seems to have a bunch. I figured for an extra couple of bucks I'd go for one with less rubber and nice looking veneer! But it is coming from California to VT!
Need To get out of (stuck in) Park!
