How is it with the famous cracking. The only question is when? There is no question if it can burst? I have driven over 280,000 km and I am a bit scared, especially since my brother-in-law in the v70 II 2.4t showed fluid on the 2nd cylinder (green raid on the spark plug) and a positive co2 test. It has a mileage of over 340,000 km. Or is it waiting for me? (rather tantamount to selling the car for parts, despite the large number of new ones). So far, my fluid is not diminishing, at least not in the same amount as my brother-in-law. I used to do a co2 test and it came out negative (hard cooling hoses) but apparently not always the test will show something.
After removing the head, we will know if only the head gasket. Although, as you read, these engines do not have gaskets, but the engines are replaced because the block breaks. The 2.5t is a bit of a disappointment on the part of Volvo for me.

I have no idea what you are talking about. What 'famous cracking are you talking about. The cars are prone to valve failure and head gasket leaks but that is about it. As to mileage at which it can happens it can be low or high km. More up to how the car is used and maintained. These engines can do 500,000km and more. There are regularly cars for sale here with 350,000km and more.

I have often read about a cracked block. Usually the second cylinder.

On P2 cars, a few years of the 2.5 T later model R engines (2004 and onward) have problems with cracked cylinder sleeves when the car is pushed really hard.

The P80 cars like a 98 S70 have no bad history of cracked engine blocks.

with 280.000 km it should have quite some years left.
Just do the basic stage 0 things, and you should be good for 100.000 more.

Cylinders can crack. Most often at the thinnest point which is in between the cylinders. Ever heard of shimming a block? The shims go in the slit between the cylinders. Effectively thickening the thinnest point. Which goes along toward preventing cracks. All engines can crack cylinder wall. The 2.5 does it more often then the 2.4, 2.3 or 2.0 because the 2.5 has the thinnest cylinder wall of all of them.

I have 2.5t (2435cm) and my brother-in-law have 2.4t (2435cm). We took the heads off and the cylinder liners look like new. Mileage 340 thousand km. No cracks.

Unless you want to modify them with high boost pressure, I wouldn't worry about them cracking.

Right. Of course they can crack, basically anything CAN crack. The point is they rarely do. There is no "famous cracking" problem with OP's car; see first line of post.
