I had my sunroof open recently and one of my kids reached up and grabbed on to the front of the opening, and this piece came off in her hand. It seems like it may have been held in place by some adhesive, but I have no idea where it's supposed to go. Without this piece in place, it appears that the sunroof doesn't drain correctly, as yesterday following a big rainstorm, I found that the fabric sunroof cover inside the car was soaked.
Any idea where this is supposed to go?
It seems like the piece came off of here somewhere
Here's what it looks like
Based on its curve, it appears like it would be oriented in this direction
Based on the shape, it seems like maybe it goes in this channel, but I'm not sure

Check underneath the sunroof glass in the front, I'm thinking it may have been adhered to the bottom (inside) of the glass. Mine has a similar piece but not exactly the same.

There are two pieces like this, one glued to the front bottom of the sunroof glass and one on the back. In my case they didn't come completely off like yours but one end came unglued and they rattled. To repair you have to carefully remove the top edge of the accordian side covers (pull top edge away from 3 clips) and then remove the 4 short 5mm bolts to remove sunroof glass. Be careful with the four small bolts attaching the sunroof glass as they strip easily. Best to use loctite and go easy on tightening these bolts down. I think I used epoxy to reattach the front and rear metal pieces and haven't had any problems with them since.
The leak you have may not be related to this missing piece, it could be the drain holes are plugged up.

sticks to the underside of the glass, when i bought my car there was alot of rattling up there, the two pieces had fallen off and were just left sitting on the shelf. I used double sided tape (3M) this was years ago and in Aussie heat still stuck good. NOTE I didnt remove the sunroof just stick them back on.

Ahh, that actually makes sense. There definitely isn't any kind of piece like that attached to the front of my sunroof glass, so it probably came off of there. I'll take a look and check the rear side of the glass as well. I'm assuming I'd want to scrape off all the old adhesive and sand the surfaces a bit before applying.
This looks like a fairly appropriate adhesive to use:

Regarding the drainage/water issue: From what I understand, if you have clogged sunroof drains then the problem shows up by the water being diverted elsewhere on the interior of the car (floors/side panels) rather than just on the inside sunroof cover. I think what may have happened is that when this piece came loose, I left it sitting in an inverted position in the front sunroof channel, and because of that I think it diverted the water backwards towards the sunroof cover. Nowhere else in the car was damp.General purpose, clear RTV indoor/outdoor sealant

Hi all, I confirmed that this is in fact where the missing piece goes:
The matching piece is still present on the rear side of the glass:
There are five evenly spaced pads along the length of this piece, and it looks like there is a break in the adhesive at each one, e.g.:
I am assuming these are there to allow for shifting or flexing between the glass and metal surfaces, or some other structural reason? I'm assuming therefore that I would need to preserve them?
Next step would be to find the appropriate adhesive, remove the existing adhesive, and reattach the piece.

Just found this thread, which is a bit discouraging for my "just glue it back on" approach:

But if others in this thread have glued/taped it back on with acceptable results I may still give it a go.

I glued both the metal pieces back on over five years ago and they're holding up fine. I used epoxy and clamped them in place until dry. There's plenty of 3M windshield adhesives to choose from too.prwood wrote: ↑18 Jan 2021, 11:46 Just found this thread, which is a bit discouraging for my "just glue it back on" approach:

Do you remember if you scraped off the existing adhesive?firstv70volvo wrote: ↑18 Jan 2021, 13:00I glued both the metal pieces back on over five years ago and they're holding up fine. I don't recall doing any scraping on the old adhesive, there wasn't any on the glass and the remaining adhesive on the metal I sanded some and cleaned thoroughly. I used three or four clamps on each piece while the glue set.prwood wrote: ↑18 Jan 2021, 13:45Do you remember if you scraped off the existing adhesive?firstv70volvo wrote: ↑18 Jan 2021, 13:00I glued both the metal pieces back on over five years ago and they're holding up fine.
