Control Arm Steering Stop

Post by 11Bravo »

Been working on this 2006 S60 2.5T. Upon fixing a few items I noticed the drivers side “control arm steering stop” piece was busted in half. I pulled it off. Didn’t really know what it was. Luckily the part number 31212189 was visible so I figured out what it is.
The question is how vital is this part? I will replace it but just wondering if it’s drivable with this part in place.
Thx
Dave

It prevents the driveshafts from binding if over extended.
Stay away from full steering deflections in the short term.

As above.. I'M not sure if the rack may get damage at full turn. So don't try a full turn until replacing the part

- Replace both with Volvo parts, they are not expensive.
- Check your wheel liner, it is probably worn by the tires rubbing it.
