side mirror swap

Post by azureblue »

I have a 2001 V70 T5. I am wondering if I can swap the side mirrors for the newer version that has turn flashers and ground lights on the mirror housing? The stock halfway down the fender little bitty side turn indicator light seems to get unnoticed by other drivers..

Though I don't know if there is a fundamental diffrence in the wiring to each bulb. I do believe it would be an enormous pain to figure out where the wiring is hidden in that part of the car- behind the fender, and how to get to it etc.

Hey there's billions of cars that don't even have turn lights on the sides. Best spend the time/money/and effort elsewhere.

Yeah, It's a minor thing. Until some yahoo doesn't see your turn signal and almost broadsides you. Seems to be a thing with the local drivers - this is the third time this year.. OTOH I may try to find a super bright bulb to put into the Fender indicator

i had the same problem, i got some 2007 S60 mirrors for my 2001 xc, i ran one extra wire from the CEM to power the turn light it was easy, then paint the cover to match the car. I was going to keep the fender light with a delay but decided to cover it with a 240 style VOLVO badge. The turn signal on the mirror is a huge improvement in safety in my opinion because its up high in your eye line you cant miss "hey im changing lanes"

Thanks - what pin# from the CEM? I was thinking of tracking the wiring to the fender light to power the mirrors side light. Did you keep the courtesy light on the side mirrors?

at the CEM its the pin that the shunt is plugged into, its the same wire that goes to the fender lights. you have to run the extra wire through the door connector, you should have spare slots, i used connectors from my junkyard car. yes i kept the courtesy lights.

If you do this I'd be interested to see pics of the connection you make at the CEM.
