2007 XC 70 4C service required

Post by Blacklab467 »

There's a pretty nice XC 70 for sale for cheap with 125000K on the odometer, it's even the right colour in Willow green with brown interior. Unfortunately it has the typical 4C suspension service required issue.
Does anyone know if there's an easy way to resolve this without buying 3500 bucks worth of struts? Can you just put OEM non 4C struts in and enjoy the car and put up with the message? Is there anyway to get rid of the service message otherwise? It's a mint car otherwise that I'd like to get but just wondering about the suspension issue.
Thanks!

Turned out to be some kind of scam anyway. The seller bought the car 2 days earlier and was just flipping it. I suspect it might have some deeper issues. I did look into the Four C issue, could be a number of things but most likely the struts at 210000 Kms. That system is fairly integrated and ties into just about every other part of the car. I would generally try to avoid a car with Four C issues. I was hoping you could put regular struts on it and disable the Four C system, it's not that simple apparently.

There are folks who install non 4 C struts and have not had problems driving their cars afterward. Not sure about error messages though. I'm pretty sure you would get them. Buy the 4C from FCP. It is a little painful on the wallet (I only did the fronts) and you'll only buy them once.

Car drives like new with replaced 4 C front struts.

I think if the 4C system is broken that you need to fix it properly. It ties in with so many other systems like ABS, AWD, TCM, DSTC, transmission, and the ECM. You could certainly drive it with non 4C components but it isn't going to work properly.
There's also folks that take the propshaft out when the AWD quits, I'm not like that.
