2008 XC70 AC weak airflow

Post by wakkawakka »

I have a 2008 XC70 and sometimes the AC works perfect. Other times you hear the blower bowing like crazy under the dash but just a trickle of air coming out of the vents. Its not a consistent issue and I'm hoping someone has experienced this before. I'd love to be able to fix on my own. I can take a video if you would think that would help.

Thanks in advance.

If it starts out by blowing strong in the beginning and then diminishing after it runs a while then the evaporator may be freezing up.

Does the compressor still cycle on and off when the system has gone into the no flow condition?

Just replaced a super dirty cabin air filter in an 04 for the same problem...Worth a look

See the two answers above, make sure the filter is clean, and look inside the engine bay if the AC lines got frozen. That will be a faulty evap sensor. Otherwise, you may have an issue with the CCM blend doors, possibly from a faulty cabin temp thermistor (different part), or some CCM calibration issue

If you have access to ViDA, you can reset the position of blend doors of the AC system. Also worth noting that there is a resistor/controller which sits in the blower fan shroud of the motor body. It controls how the blower operates speed wise. After nearly 20 years mine began failing this spring. It means removing the unit but is quite an easy job with a flexy drive T25 driver, one screw is hard to reach. I decided to replace the motor too as I did not want to do the job twice.
