Hi
I have had some power steering problems on my volvo v70 from 2006, it is like if you turn to the left, i get some resistens in the steering wheel, like it is holding again, it is not like the power steering is not working, but reduced, so i had a suspekt on the power steering pump, so i changed it to another used on yesterday, and i thought the problem was done as the power steering was working again, but today i had the same problem again.. where could my problem be now then?

Maybe it’s a seized u-joint in the steering column, the one by your toes where it passes through the floor?
When mine gets tight I pull up the rubber boot on the floor and spray it with lithium aerosol, then hose that down with oil from my Norvey “zoom spout” bottle.

But then i don't understand when i changed the pump, it was working fine the whole day yesterday, and today it dont work again. it have the same symptoms as before i changed the pump??
Hey there T L greetings from Norse America !! MDK here. yeah, so I had the same problem with my 2004 V70 last month. What I did was flush the system with petosin,, here in the states pretty expensive.. 3 quarts actually. after I did that my power steering pump started to whine and I changed the pump. It got a lot easier to turn.. but still whined. so I took a turkey baster and emptied the reservoir and put in about 3/4 of a quart of wolfshead synthetic transmission fluid and it got quite then. I talked to one guy and I asked if you change the pump and it still whined when you turn is it possible that the rack is bad.. they said yeah.. very possible. Note, in my wagon the fluid in mine was very bad

Hi again.
I have found out, when i drive the car at the morning, the power steering is at it normal, nice easy steering, but after some while, it gets a little harder, i have tried wd40 and some grease on the lower u joint, and it have help at the morning so i have easy steering, but still after some while, a little harder, but I dont get the loch fealing anymore when i turn left, as I did before, could it still be thhe lower u joint that Are playing with me, or is the rack done??

seems like something is bound up. if it was me I'd get what we call.. the front tires hanging. check everything .. see if anything is loose or moving. could be out of align. I wouldn't condemn the rack just yet..

I'm a fan of Silikroil for this application. It's a penetrating oil (way more powerful than PB) that leaves behind a persistent silicone lubricant when it dries.

I have today had a long drive, and at start it was fine and easy steering. but after after and hour or so, i could again feel the hard steering, it is very easy to feel when it happen, if you turn quarter of a turn to the left or right on the steering wheel, then you can feel a kind of resistance in the steering wheel and it feels like something between no power steering at all to a little power steering is still working, then you can turn it from side to side, and it feels easier again, but not as easy as when you start driving at morning.. sometimes i can have luck by turning the car on and off, and i starts working normal again..
i have had the car on a lift to check all suspension parts and nothing is lose or moving, all parts are normal..

Check inside the PS Reservoir, there is a small pipe (like a straw) that goes to the bottom. If that straw breaks, the PS reservoir will produce frothy fluid (like cappuccino) causing air to enter the pump and rack...
