06 XC70 - Remote starter option?

Post by scot850 »

We would like to fit a remote starter due to the winters we get here. I recall asking Volvo many years ago about doing this and they strongly advised against doing it due to the possibility of frying the electronics. With technology hopefully moving forward, has anyone successfully fitted a remote starter to a P2 and if so what brand?

Thanks,

Neil.

My remote starters broke like clockwork after 18 years. They took 9 months to ship, and didn’t work for the first six years. They cost a lot of money , but were fun to make.

I've never had any luck with remote starters - unless they were attached to the engine, they didn't work at all....

I have had them installed on 2 P80's, 03 Toyota 4Runner and a 2015 Kia Sportage. The P80's have had no real issues although the first car came with some crappy cheap unit installed that fried itself. I have had 2 x Viper units with re-chargeable on the P80's. Only issue was you needed a spare key hidden in the dash to bypass the antenna ring. They both worked well. Had a different brand on the non-Volvos. Toyota one had been good, no issues other than for some reason my phone won't always link to the head unit unless I switch off and restart. The Kia could be a little temperamental, strangely when my wife used it. Seemed ok when I did.

My wife does a dance class in the winter here as well as curling so she likes to get the car started before she leaves those places to warm the car. At home we are very lucky to have a heated garage so we don't use it here.

I will keep looking. But thanks for the input.

Neil.
