V40 2001-2004 parts interchangeable?

Post by ExcessiveMachine »

Hi everyone- new here, but had my 2004 V40 for many years now. I love it and its getting long in the tooth. I have the option to purchase a 2001 V40 parts car for cheap, but won't if the parts are too different. Any idea how compatible the parts are? I have almost 160K miles on mine and suspect a new transmission might be the next big expenditure.

Hi ExMachina ;)

Not sure about all parts, but some were interchangeable in my V40 from 2001-2002. Mine was the engine mount near all the belts.
I just ordered one in the shop to the exact model and VIN number, but when it came, it was something totally different, still my Volvo had mounts for both option, so it was not a problem for me.

Regarding the Aisin Warner automatic transmission, please do a DYNAMIC full oil flush with at least 12L of the expensive oil (for mine it was RAVENOL T-IV), it should be done after 80K km (about 50K miles) and you can do it yourself trough the radiator inlet. First of course you drain as much without turning engine on using the drain bolt under the car. Next, after refilling what has been drained, you unplug the line to the radiator and turn the engine on, it will start pumping, and you must stop around 2L, then you refill exact amount that came out, and repeat that process until you have no more fresh oil, and you can see the color change. I can link to some YT tutorials. It would be preferable to change the oil filter, but from what i know, you would have to take it apart in some degree, and that was too scary for me. After change, it is also good to do an "adaptation" by slowly moving and stopping in some order and going trough all gear positions, this makes the shifting more smooth without jumping and shaking the whole car
