Driving light conversion

I recently bought a 2013 XC90. I thought the driving lights were independent of the lighting system and could be used as fog /driving lights but as I understand it the lights are part of the low beam headlights ambient outdoor lighting. Id like to use these lights as independent driving lights activated by the low beam/ high beam switch. I was thinking of rewiring the driving lights to the either low beam or the high beam. Your suggestions are welcome. Wool
